Klein, aber fein!
Wenn Schmetterlinge über die Gemüsegärten hinweg schwirren, die Luft nach Pfeifenkräutern duftet und das Feuer in den Kaminen lodert, dann bist du in der Idylle des Auenlands angekommen. Wir flanierten über die schmalen Wege, vorbei an den kleinen runden Haustüren mit ihren bunten Farben und konnten uns an der detailverliebten Gestaltung nicht satt sehen. Mit viel Liebe und Aufwand ist auf dieser neuseeländischen Farm der Ausgangspunkt der Herr der Ringe Saga erbaut worden.

Auch wenn viele Reisende Hobbiton (zurecht) als eine überlaufende Touristenattraktion beschreiben, gehört der Besuch zu jeder Neuseelandreise dazu. Gerade die vielen Geschichten, die von der Erbauung und den Dreharbeiten erzählen, machen die dreistündige Tour durch das Auenland so interessant. Wer hätte auch gedacht, dass das neuseeländische Militär bei der infrastrukturellen Erschließung des Filmsets unter strengster Geheimhaltung mitgeholfen hat und ein normalerweise unverfänglicher Pubbesuch einiger Soldaten zum größten „Geheimnisverrats“ Neuseelands geführt hat. Oder dass für die Dreharbeiten die beschauliche Farm zur Flugverbotszone erklärt wurde und niemand auch nur in die Nähe des Filmsets gelangen durfte.
Auch wenn man kein großer Fan von Frodo, Aragon und Legolas ist, kann der Besuch im verträumtesten Örtchen Neuseelands entspannt und sehr unterhaltsam sein.
Hobbiton – Guest in the Shire
When butterflies whistle over the vegetable gardens, the air smells of whistling winds, and the fire blazes in the chimneys, you have arrived in the idyll of the Shire. We strolled over the narrow paths, past the small circular doors with their colorful colors and could not stop looking at the detailed design. The starting point for the Lord of the Rings sage was built with a lot of love and effort on this New Zealand farm.
Many travelers describe Hobbiton as a run over tourist attraction, but it is still a must do during your trip around New Zealand. Especially the many stories about the building and the shooting make the three hour tour through the Shire so interesting. Who would have thought that the New Zealand military helped with the infrastructural development of the film set under strict secrecy, and a normally innocent pub visit of some soldiers led to the greatest „secret betrayal“ of New Zealand. Or that for the filming the tranquil farm was declared to a no fly area and nobody was allowed to get even close to the film set.
Even if you are not a big fan of Frodo, Aragorn and Legolas, the visit of the most dreaded village in New Zealand can be relaxed and very entertaining.
